Light

And the sweetness from the drink of loves light
Tingle on my lips as it peaks in shine
Right before I lick the shadows
Away, and watch the glow radiate throughout
A future time where darkness drowns
And the white of destined colours
Clings to all approximate distances
Warming and never excluding a point in time
Travelling forever in eternities arms
Stopping only to be blissfully reflected
Back toward my translucent soft skin
Where it tingles once again.

Overcome

  Overcome   I take a sip, it’s smooth, it’s warm Then the window steals my thoughts Completely lost in the wretched storm The songbirds have been caught   Though not surprised, my cup in hand Shaking like torrential breeze Like strokes of lightening upon the land Illuminating ease   I spill a little, stain my sleeve of white Burning thoughts into my skin The sun no longer, clouds dark as night The rain begins to win   I close my eyes, to ten, inhale Then presence takes its place The air smells sweet, no longer stale Calm thoughts in my headspace   The heavy rain like music sings I sit back now mollified The storms exist as little things Answers come from deep inside   And so, I drink my cup of tea Songbirds are now released Each moment like leaves upon a tree Blusterous, and then find peace

Unicorn

Verse takes many shapes over a lifetime and upon looking through my teenage children's packed-away artwork, I found this one story that I scribbled on a piece of paper soon after my son was born.  How amazing to discover this treasure that reminds me of such fun moments, inspired by young motherhood, storytelling and playful days. I remember reading this verse to my kids many times, likely inspired by the hundreds of children's stories which we read nightly, however now I recognize my verse has the same rhythm as our favorite Rupert Bear rhyme books that my father passed down from his own childhood.  Almost fifteen years later, unicorns represent many interpretation connecting an array of serious and laughable meanings.  Read this with folly and fun, with a storybook sense, the simple innocence of magic and imagination. Let it see your smile if just for a moment.  How fun such rediscovered treasures become.
